Welcome to Antique, where rugged mountains descend straight into the sea—creating one of the most distinct and challenging trail running landscapes in the Philippines. Set on the western edge of Panay Island, the Antique Trail Marathon is a celebration of endurance, culture, and community.
In its inaugural edition, this event proudly hosts the Philippine National Trail Running Championships, alongside an Open Category, bringing together elite athletes, age-group competitors, and passionate trail runners from across the country.
Antique has long been a host to various sporting events and trail running championship qualifiers. It is also home to world-renowned trail runner John Ray Onifa, national team member Larry Apolinario, and youth standout Ken Libo-on, who have represented the country and etched their names on the international stage.
Now, it is Antique’s time to step onto the global trail running stage—welcoming a nationwide gathering of runners to experience its mountains, its coastlines, and its rising legacy as a premier trail running destination.

COURSE DESCRIPTION, TERRAIN & DIFFICULTY
Two loops of the 42K championship course. A demanding ultra-distance race requiring strong endurance, efficient pacing, and solid mountain experience. First-time participants at this distance must have completed a marathon-distance race within the past three months and accumulated sufficient trail mileage and experience in preparation.
Terrain
The course features:
-
Uneven and rugged trail surfaces
-
Rocky sections, loose soil, and exposed roots
-
Narrow single-track trails with limited passing space
-
Steep ascents and technical descents
-
Rolling terrain connecting mountain ridges and valleys
Some sections may be exposed to sun and wind, while others pass through shaded forested areas. Trail conditions may change depending on weather and foot traffic.
Difficulty
Trail running in Antique is physically and technically demanding. The elevation gain, sustained climbs, and continuous ascents and descents—particularly on the 25K, 42K, and 80K courses—require:
-
Good cardiovascular fitness
-
Strong leg strength and downhill control
-
Experience running on uneven and technical terrain
The 42K and 80K courses are championship-level routes, designed to test endurance, pacing, and technical skill.
Risks & Safety Considerations
Trail running is an adventure sport and carries inherent risks. Participants should be aware of:
-
Slippery surfaces, especially after rain
-
Sharp rocks and roots that may cause trips or falls
-
Fatigue-related loss of focus, particularly in longer distances
-
Rapid changes in weather and temperature
Runners are expected to be self-aware, run within their abilities, and assist fellow runners in distress when safe to do so. Carrying mandatory gear at all times is essential for safety.
By entering the Antique Trail Marathon, participants acknowledge the challenges of mountain trail running and commit to preparing adequately for the terrain, distance, and conditions.
