ABOUT
THE RACE
Antique – Home of the Warriors. The people of Antique take pride in their belief that they are descendants of Datu Sumakwel, the valiant leader and warrior of the ten Bornean Datus who first settled the Island of Panay in the 13th century. The inaugural race, held in January 2016, marked the province's second-ever trail running event, following the A.T.A.T: A Taste of Antique Trails. Originally known as the Antique Half Marathon Challenge, this road race was organized in December 2013 to raise funds for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda. In 2016, the race evolved into a trail event, incorporating obstacles and challenges, and was rebranded as the Antique Half-Marathon Challenge Plus, or "HANGAWAY."
"HANGAWAY" is a Visayan term meaning "warrior." This race now takes athletes from the road to the trail, where they must prove their strength and endurance to earn the title of Hangaway. Whether tackling the 12km distance, the Sumalayhaw (24km), the Hangkilan (34km), or the Busalian (50km), warriors will face both physical and mental challenges along the way.
Join the Antiqueños and unleash the warrior within you!
